Does the Busy Board treat autism?
No. It is a screen-free play activity, not an autism treatment, therapy, screening or diagnostic tool, medical device, or replacement for professional support.
Will it prevent meltdowns or sensory overload?
No product can promise that. Meltdowns are not bad behavior, and autistic children can respond very differently to the same activity. The board may be an option to offer, but remove it without pressure if it adds discomfort or distress.
Are all autistic children sensory-seeking?
No. Sensory profiles vary widely. A child may seek some sensations, avoid others, respond differently from day to day, or have no interest in the board. Follow your child's individual cues rather than assuming what they should enjoy.
What if a texture or activity feels uncomfortable?
Do not force it. Let your child skip any activity, explore only a preferred section, or stop completely. The board has no batteries, flashing lights, or electronic sound effects, but every child's response to touch, movement, and visual detail is different.
Will it help my child talk or communicate?
The Busy Board is not designed to teach speech or communication, and it cannot promise developmental outcomes. Continue using the communication methods and professional supports that work for your child.
What ages is it designed for—and can it identify autism?
The Busy Board is designed for ages 6 months to 5 years, but using or enjoying it says nothing about whether a child is autistic. The AAP recommends autism screening at 18 and 24 months, and the CDC notes that an experienced professional may make a reliable diagnosis by age 2. Always supervise play, especially under 18 months.
Can it make outings or transitions easier?
It may give your child one familiar activity to choose during some waiting periods or unfamiliar moments, but it cannot promise an easier outing. Keep using the preparation, communication supports, accommodations, exit plans, and professional guidance that fit your child.
